the NFL & Money (No right or wrong)

Here is my take ...

It has been reported that Athletes participating in the league will most likely be susceptible to suffering from CTE and other lingering injuries playing the game. Do note, that many parents are becoming less likely to encourage their children (unless it is the only way out of their socioeconomic status) to play football because of those injuries. The NFL is not expected to stop playing the game because of this harm. Could it be they fear the loss of money and status?

Recently, the NFL was shocked by the trend associated with “Colin Kaepernick”  protesting American political and social issues by refusing to honor the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Once again, money was and is the issue here. We have no idea of what the owners of the NFL are thinking because whatever they decided to do was to make sure fans continued to watch and attend football games. Revenue from ticket sales and television viewing is a pretty big deal.

Recent relocations of several NFL teams … Rams, Raiders, & Chargers … made no sense relative to the presence of both the Chargers and Rams in LA. The Rams and Chargers made a move because of a more financially significant market,  along with new stadiums mean more money for the NFL. The Raiders moved to Las Vegas in response to a $9 Billion stadium promise and the hope of making more money with a new stadium.

It was pretty clear that participants in the 2019 NFL Super Bowl could have changed if the bad referee call between the Saints and Rams had been dealt with and the NFC Championship game was played over. But NO, the game replay would have cost the NFL somewhere around $100 Million (loss of money) taking into account the NFC replay and a rescheduling of the Super Bowl.

It appears more and more likely that “Kareem Hunt” will be rehired by another NFL team. He was fired for lying to the Chiefs and of course, for his video verifying violent acts towards women. In today’s political and social environment what he did would pretty much sink anyone else's career FOREVER. Yet, the NFL is going to give this player a second chance. Obviously, there is a lot of money on the table here.

Hot news from fake/faux/real Twitter news feeds … There are some rumblings the Chiefs might consider hiring “Hunt”  back … It would be somewhat of a surreal occurrence. Wouldn’t it? Of course, at this point, I’m sure he is fully rehabilitated as so many people who get caught (and seeking parole) are.

Money is the game and the making thereof. Lots of it. Standards (absolute standards of rights and wrongs) don’t exist within the hearts and minds of the football barons and maybe even their fans.

Human - Sex/Labor Trafficking

Human trafficking is characterized by the use of force, fraud or coercion to lure their victims into some type of labor or commercial sex act. Not all of these above factors may be present in every situation. Human trafficking is a crime which is seldom reported due to language barriers, fear of traffickers and possibly fear of law enforcement itself. Craigslist, to their credit ... removed the "Personals" section within their online service in March of 2018 due to Federal legislative decree stiffening penalties associated with sex trafficking. It was the right move legally, ethically and morally. Sex trafficking is a subset of the larger issue known as "Human Trafficking." It is not an unreasonable stretch of logic to equate sex trafficking with the trafficking of labor, e.g. illegals being brought into the U.S. for the purpose of working in American businesses. A good number of American businesses are INDEED guilty of said labor trafficking. No place is ...

Trudeau, G7 (or G6 +1) and Trump

I am not altogether displeased with the way President Trump handled himself during this weekend's Economic Summit in Quebec, Canada. And on top of all that, I am impressed with the ongoing Twitter dialogue (if that is what one would call it) with the Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau. Due to the way in which the opposition here in the United States treats the President, it's not too much of a surprise that the rest of the world thinks they can do the same. The members of the G7 are also politicians playing to their home crowd and they shouldn't expect the US to be any different in protecting the best interests of our country. President Trump  being the street fighter (from, New York) that he is certainly never misses the opportunity to respond in kind. As to tariffs .... it would seem each country has their own set of tariffs to protect their industries. Screaming out loud in economic pain over our need to do the same is disingenuous at best. I am intrigued by the po...
