Trudeau, G7 (or G6 +1) and Trump

I am not altogether displeased with the way President Trump handled himself during this weekend's Economic Summit in Quebec, Canada. And on top of all that, I am impressed with the ongoing Twitter dialogue (if that is what one would call it) with the Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau.

Due to the way in which the opposition here in the United States treats the President, it's not too much of a surprise that the rest of the world thinks they can do the same. The members of the G7 are also politicians playing to their home crowd and they shouldn't expect the US to be any different in protecting the best interests of our country.

President Trump  being the street fighter (from, New York) that he is certainly never misses the opportunity to respond in kind.

As to tariffs .... it would seem each country has their own set of tariffs to protect their industries. Screaming out loud in economic pain over our need to do the same is disingenuous at best.

I am intrigued by the possibility of a closer economic alliance with Russia. The European Union (EU) is pretty uptight about the possibility ...  I think it is probably OK for the EU to  be a little edgy since they seem to think their interests should be served above all others ... including ours.

We are seeing a President who is willing to weather the storm of criticism and derision by the opposition in order to achieve something different ... especially when one considers the possibility that what we are doing now is taking us down the wrong path.

Our President, whether one agrees with him or not is not an average leader ... he is actually leading & NOT checking his weather rock outside for rain FIRST before he does what he was elected to do.

Net vs Brick-and-Mortar

A market battle is raging NOW between brick-and-mortar stores (Walmart) & the net (Amazon). I suppose the perception is such that an internet store can do it better, have a broader selection & be more responsive to the needs of the consumer. It’s possible that the internet store is more convenient & easier to use. Plus, maybe less expensive. The struggle for the internet store is that they have to figure out how to get the product to the end user …. the “last mile” they would say. Shipping costs can be significant. I recall not too long ago, planning on purchasing a product, where it was being offered something like this … “Buy 1, Get 2nd FREE”, the only thing needed to pay on the second one was shipping & handling. The free turned out not to be so free, therefore I couldn’t even buy the first one because of the shipping/handling cost. The collection of sales taxes used to be a big deal, but that is quickly disappearing as an issue & the playi...

Hospitals, Hospitals & MORE Hospitals

Finished reading an article regarding a new medical research center being built by “Children’s Mercy Hospital” in Kansas City, MO. It’s going to be a beautiful building & one of architectural significance from the looks of it. I dare say that it most likely will be pretty expensive to build . Having not too long ago moved back to Kansas City from Houston … there, they are building new architecturally significant hospitals right & left … there appears to be no end in sight as to the building spree. I am not sure there is any more room left in the Houston Medical Center District. Some of my reading has implied that these facilities are of a high tech nature with all the bells & whistles necessary to deliver state of the art medical care to a generation of folks who are demanding such services. I can’t help but believe that all of this will ultimately be reflected in higher health care costs to us the end user. Our insurance rates in reality go up significantly e...

Human - Sex/Labor Trafficking

Human trafficking is characterized by the use of force, fraud or coercion to lure their victims into some type of labor or commercial sex act. Not all of these above factors may be present in every situation. Human trafficking is a crime which is seldom reported due to language barriers, fear of traffickers and possibly fear of law enforcement itself. Craigslist, to their credit ... removed the "Personals" section within their online service in March of 2018 due to Federal legislative decree stiffening penalties associated with sex trafficking. It was the right move legally, ethically and morally. Sex trafficking is a subset of the larger issue known as "Human Trafficking." It is not an unreasonable stretch of logic to equate sex trafficking with the trafficking of labor, e.g. illegals being brought into the U.S. for the purpose of working in American businesses. A good number of American businesses are INDEED guilty of said labor trafficking. No place is ...
