What’s UP with the Security Camera’s???

Have a break in the action regarding preparation of individual tax returns for H & R Block. (btw that was a shameless plug for my biz LOL … since I have started down that path might as well encourage you to come & see me @ the District Office location up on Antioch RD in Gladstone *smile*)

Now … sorry for the deviation from my original thought pattern LOL SECURITY CAMERA’s

Sitting in the local branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library I noticed that they have installed NEW security camera’s … those little electronic half moons that would appear to house “seeing eyes” (Remember the movie “Casino” & the EYES in the SKY???) watching & recording SOMETHING. RATS, another camera is going to look at that bald spot on the top of my head grrrrr.

In quizzing library staff the reason for their need, it was explained to them by management that they were necessary to secure assets (books, CD’s, DVD’s etc) & of course provide security for patrons & staff. I can’t begin to tell you how elated I am of the thought that I might be featured in a video with the hopeful expectation that it would somehow, someway go VIRAL on YouTube LOL

Then I ran across an article on the Huffington Post entitled “

Wyoming Representatives Introduce Legislation To Videotape Teacher Performance Statewide

Of course the article explains that the stated purpose for the use of camera’s is to evaluate teacher’s performance in conjunction with their job. I believe that, DON”T YOU???

Two examples are not necessarily conclusive, but it would seem that these little buggers are showing up everywhere & keeping track of a lot of information. Certainly intruding upon our privacy in the name of some noble purpose.

So it is the proverbial thingy of THEM (whoever they are) watching us pretty closely for some reason (you pick) but when the tables are turned & “WE” start watching them … interesting things happen.

Did you know that???    “In response to a flood of Facebook and YouTube videos that depict police abuse, a new trend in law enforcement is gaining popularity. In at least three states, it is now illegal to record any on-duty police officer.

The legal justification for arresting the "shooter" rests on existing wiretapping or eavesdropping laws, with statutes against obstructing law enforcement sometimes cited. Illinois, Massachusetts, and Maryland are among the 12 states in which all parties must consent for a recording to be legal unless, as with TV news crews, it is obvious to all that recording is underway. Since the police do not consent, the camera-wielder can be arrested. Most all-party-consent states also include an exception for recording in public places where "no expectation of privacy exists" (Illinois does not) but in practice this exception is not being recognized.” (Thank You, Gizmo.com)

I personally believe this is a trend that (as Barney Fife used to say on The Andy Griffith Show) has to be nipped in the bud.

I will fall back on the same logic they (whoever, once again they are LOL) use on us when we feel our privacy is being invaded.

IF THEY HAVE NOTHING ILLEGAL/WRONG (YOU NAME IT) TO HIDE, then they shouldn’t worry about it, RIGHT???

Human - Sex/Labor Trafficking

Human trafficking is characterized by the use of force, fraud or coercion to lure their victims into some type of labor or commercial sex act. Not all of these above factors may be present in every situation. Human trafficking is a crime which is seldom reported due to language barriers, fear of traffickers and possibly fear of law enforcement itself. Craigslist, to their credit ... removed the "Personals" section within their online service in March of 2018 due to Federal legislative decree stiffening penalties associated with sex trafficking. It was the right move legally, ethically and morally. Sex trafficking is a subset of the larger issue known as "Human Trafficking." It is not an unreasonable stretch of logic to equate sex trafficking with the trafficking of labor, e.g. illegals being brought into the U.S. for the purpose of working in American businesses. A good number of American businesses are INDEED guilty of said labor trafficking. No place is ...

the NFL & Money (No right or wrong)

Here is my take ... It has been reported that Athletes participating in the league will most likely be susceptible to suffering from CTE and other lingering injuries playing the game. Do note, that many parents are becoming less likely to encourage their children (unless it is the only way out of their socioeconomic status) to play football because of those injuries. The NFL is not expected to stop playing the game because of this harm. Could it be they fear the loss of money and status? Recently, the NFL was shocked by the trend associated with “Colin Kaepernick”  protesting American political and social issues by refusing to honor the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Once again, money was and is the issue here. We have no idea of what the owners of the NFL are thinking because whatever they decided to do was to make sure fans continued to watch and attend football games. Revenue from ticket sales and television viewing is a pretty big deal. Recent relocations of sever...

Trudeau, G7 (or G6 +1) and Trump

I am not altogether displeased with the way President Trump handled himself during this weekend's Economic Summit in Quebec, Canada. And on top of all that, I am impressed with the ongoing Twitter dialogue (if that is what one would call it) with the Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau. Due to the way in which the opposition here in the United States treats the President, it's not too much of a surprise that the rest of the world thinks they can do the same. The members of the G7 are also politicians playing to their home crowd and they shouldn't expect the US to be any different in protecting the best interests of our country. President Trump  being the street fighter (from, New York) that he is certainly never misses the opportunity to respond in kind. As to tariffs .... it would seem each country has their own set of tariffs to protect their industries. Screaming out loud in economic pain over our need to do the same is disingenuous at best. I am intrigued by the po...
