Hospitals, Hospitals & MORE Hospitals

Finished reading an article regarding a new medical research center being built by “Children’s Mercy Hospital” in Kansas City, MO. It’s going to be a beautiful building & one of architectural significance from the looks of it. I dare say that it most likely will be pretty expensive to build.

Having not too long ago moved back to Kansas City from Houston … there, they are building new architecturally significant hospitals right & left … there appears to be no end in sight as to the building spree. I am not sure there is any more room left in the Houston Medical Center District.

Some of my reading has implied that these facilities are of a high tech nature with all the bells & whistles necessary to deliver state of the art medical care to a generation of folks who are demanding such services.

I can’t help but believe that all of this will ultimately be reflected in higher health care costs to us the end user.

Our insurance rates in reality go up significantly every year. If they don’t go up that much it is because they are cutting back upon the nature of the benefits, expanding deductibles etc. The annual justification for these increases is that medical costs are rising.

I just worked with a young lady who cannot afford to take advantage of her company’s health insurance benefit for herself & most certainly if it includes a family plan of sorts involving her child. The company’s plan just costs too much because medical costs are high & going up.

Amazingly enough, the ACA plans are also pretty darn expensive.

If one does not take advantage of an ACA health insurance plan (when an employer plan is not available), then the penalties associated with failure to secure a plan are pretty expensive also.

One is left between a rock & a hard place in trying to obtain adequate health care (Insurance) at a rate a struggling family can afford. One needs insurance because health care costs are high.

Back to the new hospitals & cost …. I hardly find it useful to be increasing the cost of providing health care (regardless of the nifty new bells & whistles) if the end user is trying to stay above water with the current rates & can’t afford a doctor/hospital because they are NOW too expensive.

Maybe, they (the hospital builders) should STOP spending money on brick, mortar & the internet ... Here is a novel idea …. start spending money on taking care of the people who need them.

I am not nearly as concerned about new paint as I am about the doctor sticking the needle in the right place.

Harley Davidson

Harley Davidson (Kansas City) announced that they are going to close their manufacturing plant sometime in 2019. I think they described it as bringing into alignment their manufacturing capacity with the harsh reality of a shrinking demand for their product. The plant costing millions of dollars to build was put into play around 1998. So we are looking at a plant that has been in Kansas City only 20 years. Plus, when they threatened to shut down the plant a few years ago, the State of Missouri and employees came up to the plate again to provide them what they needed to stay. I recall a significant investment by another GIANT corporation not too long ago in Kansas City. Interestingly enough, they secured some nice funding breaks from the city and state assisting in its construction. Millions of dollars were spent to build the facility. The local chamber participated in the ribbon cutting joyfully singing the corporations' theme song and basking in the belief that the states'...

Showdown @ the Singapore Corral

join me as I walk down fantasy lane .... Donald and Kim .... back to back .... each armed with their agreed upon single shot weapons .... They start ... Step 1, Step 2 .... Step 15 & they both turn ... a visible flash, a powerful and loud shock wave .... the winner still standing ... takes all. end of walk .... World leaders who have a beef with each other and of course on behalf of their respective countries .... simply should consider duking it out between themselves ... therefore excluding us little people from being sent to die for only God knows what. Subsequent to a Congress and President declaring war ... These leaders themselves should head out to the battlefield instead of sending young people with so much life ahead of them into harm's way. The fantasy above crosses my mind as I play with the possibility of something similar happening in Singapore, just a few short days from now ... It seems possible (not probable) that one of the two world leaders might decid...

Hopefully Roseanne Barr is Feeling the Pain

Racial Prejudice ... is alive & well. Unfortunately ... a significant portion our educational effort focusing on the elimination of the US's racial divide appears to be falling short of its goal. It's a little hard to stomach comments made by rather visible television personalities who most certainly express their hatred of those who are different based upon skin color, etc. These visible personalities have scored big in life's financial lottery, yet they offer nothing more to society in the form of behavior that uplifts us. They in fact tear us down and bury us deeper into the morass of hatred and shame. I am thankful for the fact that ABC canceled Roseanne Barr's show. By doing so, the network is vividly telling the citizens of our country, this kind of behavior and thought is not acceptable. They are telling us that personalities expressing themselves this way are NOT any longer to be tolerated. Reprisals will be swift, clear and permanent. Even in my s...
